Xtra primer pickup tubes on the must have list they only come with one ea small and large.
I am not about speed myself its stopping every 15 or so and sorting brass into the feed tube that made me want the case feeder, I do a liesurely 400-500rds an hour I think with case feed they are rated closer to 800-1000. All rifle is reloaded on a RockChucker as I dont shoot enough rifle to justify setting a 650 up for it.

When I get to rifle loading I have read good things about these products. http://www.uniquetek.com/site/696296/product/T1230

Or there is always the Rock Chucker.

dillon lists the specs for the presses here:

http://www.dillonprecision.com/#/customize-reloader.html

The difference in price between the 550 and 650 is $104. The 550 case feed is $30 more than the 650 casefeed. That negates the price difference a little. The 550 casefeed is for pistol only. The 650 is for pistol or rifle with different shellplates. The caliber conversions for the 650 are about $30 more than the 550. I think you get one caliber conversion with each press.

The other thing I noticed, the 550 is manual indexing (you need to manually index the case to the next station). The 650 automatically indexes the case to the next station with the pull of the handle.

The loading rate for the 550 is 500 rounds per hour. The rate for the 650 is 800 rounds per hour. I have loaded 700 rounds of 45 ACP per hour on my 650 and that is about as fast as I want to go with the inspections I do every 100 rounds (when the primer tube needs to be refilled). I am sure both of these rates assume that you have primer tubes filled beforehand.

Either press, I am sure you will be happy.
Because I care, I carry.

Thanks, but I have the Dillon site memorized. The real world price difference between the two presses is $88+/-.

I think those prices are AFTER the increase. John told me the 650 was $479 set up for .45 plus tax. Call if you really want to know.

I know that some of you have seen me reload on the 650 - I like it and would recommend it wholeheartedly. Good Machine and it will go as fast or as slow as you can.

Either way - you are getting a good machine.

How long would you say a primer change would take?

Here are some things to think about.

The 550 case feeder costs more because the 550 is not plumbed for it. Plus the 550 case feeder is for handgun rounds only.

The 650 has more quirks then the 550, ie the learning curve is a bit of a challenge. The 550 is easier to use as a Single Stage then a 650. Now, here is something to think about. If you are going to be loading 223, I would suggest you buy the 550, and then invest in Giraud Case Trimmer.

Remember that some cartridge conversions may only require a change indicator pins, and say a funnel or expander. If you get the 45ACP conversion you are set to load 308 with just a 30cal funnel. Or say the 9mm conversion only needs indicator pins and expander for you to load 40SW.

One powder measure for handgun rounds is good, but get tool head for each caliber you will load so you can swap fast.

Primer changes with 550 is fairly fast, but I have made it easier....I have an extra primer assembly so hat I swap every thing out on the 550. Just faster no tuning or anything....unhook spring, and two screws out and two screws in and reattach spring... in biz.
