Got in the door right as it opened on Saturday. Found the 1911 I wanted to shoot and was on the range in no time. After that I spent quite a while trying to shoot some more 1911s while quickly growing tired of waiting for them to return. The worst was waiting around for cases to show up for a gun that was sitting on the table ready to go. It seems some of the reps grabbed more than their share while others had to make due with putting handguns in rifle cases.
Spotted the S&W 41, decided that was worth waiting for a case. By that point, the counter was 3 lines deep

I asked for a box of Eley Sport at the counter, the guy tried to make sure I had the right caliber (understandable) then handed me some of the Remington (golden bullets? ewwww) So what if it's $4.50 a box, I wanted to shoot the best damn American .22LR handgun with the best damn .22LR in the shop. Besides, a box is only $4.50 so it's not exactly breaking the bank. They promptly put me in the machine gun bay next to the Barrett. Gee, thanks guy

Ever shoot Bullseye with a Barrett, ak74 and m16 going off next to you?
I'm aweful putting names, faces and nicknames together. If you read this Bill's guy, I forgive you.

It was busy and you were just doing what you could to get everybody a lane quickly.

Last lap around the room; it's pushing noon. I spot the PTR-91's on the wall and a rep not seeing much action. I've always wanted one of those, or at least a chance to shoot one. I chat with the rep a bit and learn one of them is chambered in .243. A .243 G3 clone? how.... odd. I hand him the DL and he starts searching for the serial number. Never finds it. My name is the only one on the list. He borrows a rifle case from another rep and off I go. To make a long story short: I didn't realize German fingers are 2 inches longer than our American versions. Can't reach the "thumb" safety. Can't reach the mag release. Bolt release is awkward. I've heard the ergonomics of the G3 were bad, but I had no idea! It is, however, nice to finally cross one off the list of "Firearms I'd Like to Own" without the normal process of emptying the wallet first.
Grabbed one of those Shooter's Specials at the bar next door. Thin frozen patty on a squashed bun with a pile of shoestring fries.... Color me unimpressed. Spent the whole time cursing my friends knowing that there's an El Loro next door and that I could be nomming on a plate of Chori Pollo. mmmmmm
Last stop: Streicher's.
