Minneapolis Cop loses his gun?

Postby DeanC on Fri Sep 21, 2007 7:27 am

I half heard this on the TV news last night. A Cop pursuing a perp on foot lost his gun. They went back to look for it, but it's gone. Can't find any links. Anyone else?

Still can't find anything about it, but I did find a slightly used, excuses me, a rather worn and unused Glock on Park and 26th last night.................... :o

So does that make it illegal or just undocumented................

http://www.startribune.com/462/It doesn't sound too likely that this is the story you are looking for, but it's a weird coincidence, hopefully not the beginning of a new trend.

Pat Cannon found it. The story, not the gun: Fox 9

It seems that not only does light rail kill more people than PTC, it also causes cops to lose their guns.

MINNEAPOLIS -- A Metro Transit police officer lost his gun while chasing a drug suspect along the Hiawatha light rail transit line. The suspect was caught by police, but the gun remains missing somewhere in south Minneapolis.

Police are asking the public to be on alert for the gun and notify them if it is found.

Finders/Keepers... right? 8-)

Well, it doesn't say you have to turn it in, just notify them.

"Yeah, I found it. You don't have to worry about it falling into the wrong hands anymore. I'll take real good care of it. Do you have any extra mags for this piece?"

I wonder what kind of holster the guy was using? I'm under the impression that uniformed officers of pretty much any department are required to use level 3 retention models.

Speaking of which: that incident, a few years ago, when the offduty drunk MPD cop decided to tune up another bar patron, and got beaten up and lost his gun, did anybody ever hear if the gun ever showed up?

He was a Transit Cop which means he was probably in street clothes, so i doubt he had anything other than level 1.
