Out of whack ammo prices!!

Postby Seismic Sam on Sat Jul 25, 2009 11:54 am

Went to the Wolf's Den yesterday and actually bought a box of FACTORY LOADED ammo!! :( :o  :? :?: :hmm: :cogitating: The ONLY reason I bought it was that I wanted the brass, so I wasn't really buying the ammo for the sake of shooting it. The caliber was 9x23 Winchester, and this is one wicked, smokin' hot round. 9x23 cases are hard to find sometimes, and go for about 30 cents apiece, so the cases were worth $15 to me, and I only had to pay an additional $4.29 cents for fully loaded rounds. (Total of $19.29 for a box of 50 Winchester White Box.) 9x23 Winchester is shot out of recent model 38 Super guns (mine's an EAA Match) and will drive a 125 grain .355 bullet at 1450 FPS  , which is the full equivalent of the 357 SIG and 357 Magnum rounds with that bullet weight.

In the meantime, .380 ammo, which is truly a mousefart in comparison to a 9x23, is going for TEN BUCKS more per box?? hoo-boy!!! Save money by shooting high-powered, exotic factory ammo instead of the piddly common low power calibers!! This makes about as much sense as Tootsie swearing off wimmin and joining the priesthood!!

I was told by a local dealer (so who knows how true it is) that the ammo companies aren't producing a lot of .380 in order to try to keep up production on 9mm. So it's a lack of production on the .380, not necessarily that they are in such high demand. :?:

I hope the start producing some range rounds soon, I'd like to get more time on my .380.

Found 250rd packs of UMC in 380 at Dick's on Monday. $90 - ouch.

Seems like a good time to leave that pocket gun in the safe, and go practice/carry something in a different caliber.

Plenty of .25 ACP on the shelves at the local wally worlds!

Reloading .380 seems like a frustrating concept too, although these days it makes more sense than it did 2 years ago.

It's not too frustrating. Just did 500 rounds up on a single stage press. The hard thing for me is finding bullets that are small enough to use. Funny, have everything else but without the bullets... :hammer: :hammer:

Wouldn't think there'd be too much room left in the case to promote the possibility of a double charge at least.

Of course, my reloading manual is 5 feet away and I'm too lazy to verify that.

My cousin just bought a Bersa Thunder .380 and asked me to keep an eye out for good SD ammo. He is really only looking for one box. I am going to dip into my supply of range ammo so he can get some rounds down range to get familiar with it.

Any thoughts on the best bet for finding a box of SD ammo - Fox Den?

Frontiersman had a bunch of many different calibers, they might be worth a phone call. This was last week when I was there.

Can't recall whether .380 in any sort of SD application was there.

Lots of 25 ACP in Wally World?? Well Duuuhhhhhhhh?????

When was the last time a North Side "Urban Fur Trader" ventured out into suburbia in his pimped up ride with the hos in the back to buy some ammo for his stolen gun?? I mean, the Woodbury police would be all over him FASTER than Tootsie grabs Dawn!!
